Happy Birthday to Shoojit Sircar, Indian director, producer, and screenwriter, born on September 16 (year unknown), in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Shoojit made his directorial debut in 2005 with ‘Yahaan’, a romance, Kashmiri war drama starring Jimmy Sheirgill.  His next film became a surprise hit, ‘Vicky Donor’ (2012). Produced by John Abraham, Shoojit won the National Film Award for Best Popular film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The film, a romantic comedy, starred Ayushmann Khurrana (his debut) as a reluctant sperm donor. In 2013, he directed and produced ‘Madras Café’. The critically acclaimed film, starred John Abraham as an Indian Army officer involved in the Sri Lankan civil war in the late 1980s. In. 2015, Shoojit directed ‘Piku’, a comedy/drama road trip film starring Deepika Padukone as the caretaker of her cranky father, Amitabh Bachchan. The film won many awards including a Filmfare Award for Best Film – Critics, Best Actress for Deepika, and Best Actor – Critics for Amitabh. In 2016, he wrote and produced a powerful social story,‘Pink’, a courtroom drama showing the double standard between young man and young woman in India. The film won a National Film Awards for Best Film on Social Issues. Shoojit produced ‘Running Shaadi’ (2017) and directed Varun Dhawan in ‘Octobor’ (2018), playing a selfish young man who matures into a compassionate one when his co-worker becomes comatose. In 2020, he produced and directed ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ with Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurana as landlord and tenant.
