Aamir Khan Biography

Happy Birthday Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan or just Aamir Khan, iconic Indian actor, producer, director, social activist, born on March 14, 1965, in Mumbai. Aamir has the distinction, along with fellow actors Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, of ruling Bollywood for two-and-a-half decades. Aamir’s father, Tahir Hussain, was a film producer, his brother Faisal Khan is an actor, and his nephew, Imran Khan, is also a well-known actor. Aamir appeared as a child in ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, a 1973 film directed by his paternal uncle. At the age of 16, Aamir became involved in making an experimental film called ‘Paranoia’. This experience leads to a desire for a career in the film industry and when he finished high school Aamir worked as an assistant director to his uncle Nasir on ‘Manzil Manzil’ (1984) and ‘Zabardast’ (1985). He made his adult acting debut in a low-budget film ‘Holi’ (1984). This lead to ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ (1988), with Juhi Chawla. The film was a major commercial success, making Aamir and Juhi stars. Other successful films during this period were: ‘Dil’ (1990), ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’ (1991), ‘Rangeela’ (1995), ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ (1994), ‘Raja Hindustani’, and ‘Ishq’ (1997).  In 2001, Aamir produced and starred in Ashutosh Gowariker’s critically acclaimed ‘Lagaan’. The film won many awards including National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards, and Aamir won a Filmfare Best Actor Award. Aamir’s other well-known films are:  ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ (2001), ‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006), ‘Fanaa’ (2006), ‘Taare Zameen Par’ (2007), ‘Ghajini’ (2008), ‘3 Idiots’ (2009), ‘Dhoom 3’ (2013), ‘PK’ (2014), and ‘Dangal’ (2016), currently the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in India. His last production, ‘Secret Superstar’ (2017), is the third highest-grossing Indian film ever. Aamir is considered a superstar in the Chinese market where his films break records. He is the only Indian actor with four films in the 500-crore club. Unfortunately, his last film, ‘Thugs of Hindustan’, flopped at the box office. Aamir also had his own talk show called ‘Satyamev Jayate’ dealing with social issues. Aamir was awarded the Padma Shri in 2003 and Padma Bhushan in 2010 from the government of India.
