Happy Birthday to Anurag Kashyap, Indian film director, producer, actor, and screenwriter, born on September 10, 1972, in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.  Anurag first found success writing a screenplay for the hit film ‘Satya’ in 1999. Co-written with Saurabh Shukla, the film is considered one of the all-time best gangster films.  In 2000, Anurag made his directorial debut with ‘Paanch’ starring Kay Kay Menon, but the film was never released as it ran into trouble with the Indian Censor Board. His films which explore the dark side of the human condition, are gritty and realistic. His best efforts as screenwriter and director are: ’Black Friday’ about the 1993 Mumbai bombings (2004),’Dev D’ (2009) a modern retelling of Devdas, ‘Gulaal’ (2009), ‘That Girl with Yellow Boots’ (2011), Anurag’s first international release with themes of child abuse and drug addiction, and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ (2012) the saga of 3 crime families in the coal mafia that some consider a masterpiece.  Anurag founded Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt. Ltd. In 2009. The company has produced such films as: ‘Udaan’ (2010), ‘The Lunchbox’ (2013), and ‘Shahid’ (2013). In 2011, Anurag founded another production Phantom Films, with several partners.  Phantom has produced such films as: ‘Lootera’ (2013), ‘Queen’ (2014), ‘NH10’ (2015), ‘Masaan’ (2015), ‘Udta Punjab’ (2016), and ‘Trapped’ (2017). In 2016, he wrote and directed ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’, a psychological thriller starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a serial killer, and ‘Mukkabaaz’ (2017), a sports drama starring Vineet Kumar Singh. In 2018, Anurag has been involved in directing a short story for ‘Lust Stories’, and ‘Sacred Games’, a critically acclaimed series on Netflix.  As an actor, Anurag can be seen in ‘Akira’ (2016), playing a corrupt police officer, and in ‘AK vs AK’, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, playing himself.  His latest film is ‘Manmarziyaan’, which he directed and produced, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu. He directed one of the short stories in ‘Ghost Stories’ (2020), an anthology horror film for Netflix. Anurag’s latest contribution was to co-produce the black comedy ‘Choked’ (2020).
