Dhoom Dhaam
Dhoom Dhaam

Koyal and Veer are sitting opposite each other, waiting for the priest’s evaluation of their charts. It seems they are a good match, but only if the marriage takes place within two weeks. Two weeks later, after the celebrations are over, they are sitting shyly in the honeymoon suite, looking forward to finally being alone.  They are interrupted by two thugs demanding to know the whereabouts of “Charlie”. When one of them threatens Veer with a gun, Koyal springs into action, ninja kicks and all. Veer, it turns out, is a coward and totally helpless. They spend the rest of the night on the run. This is the first of many situations where they will find out how mismatched they really are.  Yami Gautam Dhar and Pratik Gandhi are hilarious as Koyal and Veer. The screenplay by Yami’s husband, Aditya Dhar, and direction by Rishab Seth, keep the pace and the fun coming. You can watch this light and enjoyable film on Netflix.

Azaad
Azaad

‘Azaad’ is set in a small Indian village in the 1920s, when Indians were still at the mercy of the British and their landlords, the Zimindars. It was a time when whole villages were uprooted and sent as slaves to the Caribbean, and rebel forces use guerilla tactics to wage war on British solders. Govind, played by Ajay Devgn’s nephew Aaman Devgan in his debut, is a mischevious stable boy. His dream is to own his own horse one day. Janaki, played by Rasha Thadani, Raveena Tendon’s daughter in her debut, is the Zimindar’s daughter. Young and full of life, she resents the restrictions placed on her by society. After an incident involving insulting Janaki, Govind rans from the punishment of being dragged by a horse. He is hiding in the ravines when he first sets his eyes on Azaad, the magnificant stallion of rebel leader Vikram Singh.  Vikram allows Govind to join the rebels. Now the love story of Azaad and Govind begins.  Director Abhishek Kapoor tells a simple story set in a time when the Indian people, the stable boy, the Zimindar’s daughter, and Azaad the horse struggle to find independence and freedom. I enjoyed the sweetness of this movie. You can watch it on Netflix.

Kaalidhar Laapata

Kaalidhar Laapata

‘Kaalidhar Laapata’ is translated Kaalidhar is lost or missing. Kaalidhar played by Abhishek Bachchan, is a middle-aged man who becomes a burden to his family when he starts experiencing memory loss. They decide to take Kaalidhar on a religious pilgrimage to the Kumbh Mele, the largest gathering in the world.  While there, Kaalidhar overhears them ploting to ‘lose’ him, return home, sell the house, and move away. Hurt, he leaves the gathering on his own, eventually meeting up with another independent soul Ballu. Ballu is a bright, resourceful eight-year old orphan. They form a friendship and Ballu determines to help Kaalidhar fulfil his backet list. Abhishek Bachchan as a-rough-around-the-edges sympathic man, taken for granted by his family, is excellent. Child actor Daivik Bhagela is charismatic and lots of fun to watch.  ‘Kaalidhar Laapata’ is an emotional family entertainer that hits all the right notes. You can watch it on ZEE5.

Saiyaara
Saiyaara

‘Saiyaara’, directed by Mohit Suri, is my favorite love story of 2025.  What seems like a ordinary love story, becomes an emotional joy ride due to the watchability of the lead pair, Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday.  Ahaan as Krish Kapoor, a struggling musician becomes volatile when his talent goes unrecognized. Krish is also deeply wounded by the loss of his mother and an acoholic father who has emotionally abandoned him.  When Krish meets Vaani he is drawn to her innocence and vulnerability. He encourages her creativity as a poet and lyric writer, and their relationship slowly evolves.  We see another side of Krish, who is tender and protective of Vaani. But Vaani has her own demons and a secret that will test the nature of their love. I fell in love with this couple. Ahaan is an emotional actor,r and you feel everything he experiences through his eyes. The movie is streaming on Netflix.

Dhurandhar
Dhurandhar Jpeg
‘Dhurandhar’ is an exciting spy thriller inspired by headlines of Pakistani terror attacks on India in the early 2000s.  Intelligence Bureau Chief Sanyal has a plan to infiltrate one of Karachi’s underworld gangs to dismantle their connection with Pakistan’s ISI. Finding a fearless young man capable of this job, he sends him on a risky journey into this violent world with a list of key players. Written, directed and produced by Aditya Bhar, the story is full of interesting characters and situations. The acting is fantastic. Ranveer Singh is focused and intense as Hamza Ali Mazari, the spy, and Akshaye Khanna steals every scene he is in as gangster Rehman Dakait. R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt are also authentic in their roles. The movie kept my interest for three plus hours. The second part is coming soon. You can catch part one on Netflix.
