‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is a fantasy sci-fiction adventure yarn in the mold of Star Wars and The Avengers,  but with characters that are familiar to Indian audiences. It is set in the post-apocalyptic future where the world has divided into three groups. Complex inhabitants live in a lush world of plenty ruled by the evil Yaskin. Those dwelling in Kasi are in a daily fight for survival. The third world, Shambhala, is inhabited by rebels who await the birth of Kalki, their savior. Connecting these worlds is Bhairava (Prabhas) a comical bounty hunter and his robot car, Bujji, the immortal Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan), and Sumathi, the pregnant mother of Kalki (Deepika Padukone). ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ was written and directed by Nag Ashwin. ‘HanuMan’ is an entertaining mix of science fiction, mythology,and superhero fighting for good and defeating evil.   The story is set in the fictional village of Anjanadri. Hanumanthu (Teja Sajja), is a petty thief who is in love with Meenakshi (Amritha Aiyer), who left the village and became a doctor. Meenaskshi’s modern ideas put her at odds with the cruel village boss, Gajapathi. When he seeks to kill her, Hanumanthu comes to her rescue but is over-powered by Gajapathi’s man and thrown off a cliff into the sea. Sinking to the bottom, Hanumanthu discovers a large gem said to contain Hanuman’s superpowers. He will need those superpowers to fight again Michael, a evil villain who will do anything to get Hanuman’s gem and destroy the village. ‘HanuMan’ is a part of director Prasanth Varma’s Cinematic Universe. ‘Lucky Baskhar’ is a period crime drama set in the late 80s early 90s Bombay. Baskhar Kumar (Dulquer Salmaan) is a middle-class bank clerk striving to provide a better life for his family. He is deeply in debt as he is responsible for his father, his brother and his own wife and son. With mounting debts and disappointment when he is overlooked for a promotion,  he bends the rules when the opportunity presents itself. At first all goes well. He is able to pay off his debts and save for the future. Being a basically good man, he decides to quit while he is ahead. But, eventually his savings run out and he becomes involved in a bigger financial scam this time. Meenakshi Chaudhary as Sumathi, adds emotion as Baskhar’s supportive wife. Director Venky Atluri brings us through the various stages of Baskhar’s life, interweaving his family life with his job and his criminal activities. Venky uses the tecnique of ‘breaking the fourth wall’. This means Baskhar will occasionaly talk to the audience. The story uses flashbacks to further explain what is happening.
