Kabir Khan is an Indian cinematographer, screenwriter, and director, born on September 14, 1971, in Hyderabad. Kabir started his career as a cinematographer filming ‘Beyond the Himalayas’ (1996) for the Discovery Channel. After directing three documentaries of his own, Kabir wrote and directed his first feature film, ‘Kabut Express’ in 2006. Starring John Abraham, the film received the Indra Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director at the 54th National Film Awards. He followed with ‘New York’ (2009), a thriller about the effect of the September 11 attacks on three school friends. Kabir wrote and directed ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, a spy thriller starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. ‘Tiger’ became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2012. Kabir’s next, ‘Bajrangi Bhajaan’, which he directed and produced, is his most successful film to date. Starring Salman Khan, a Hanuman devotee, who takes a mute six-year-old girl back to her home in Pakistan. The film received Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at the 63rd National Film Awards, Best Story awards at the 61st Filmfare Awards, and many other awards. It became the highest-grossing film of 2015 and is considered an All-Time Blockbuster. Kabir’s next two films ‘Phantom’ with Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, and ‘Tubelight’ with Salman Khan did below average business. His next ‘83’, the story of Kapil Dev and the 1983 Cricket World Cup, starring Ranveer Singh, was held by the Covid lockdown and is still not released.
