Shakti (Sunil) Kapoor is an Indian character actor with more than 700 films to his credit, born on September 3, 1952, in New Delhi, India. His father was a tailor, but Shakti did not want to join the family business. He eventually landed in the Film and Television Institute of India and signed for his first film before getting his diploma.  He played many small roles before his breakthrough in ‘Qurbani’ (1980) and ‘Rocky’ (1981). Shakti is best known as a villain in roles, such as: ‘Himmatwala’, ‘Hero” (1983), and ‘Gunda’ (1998). During the 1990s, Shakti took on comic roles: ‘Insaaf Kaun Karega’ (1984), ‘Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri’ (1990), ‘Chup Chup Ke’ (2006), ‘ChaalBaaz’ (1989), and ‘Bol Radna Bol’ (1992). In 1994, Shakti did ‘Raja Babu’ and won a Filmfare Best Comedian Award. He was also nominated for Best Comedian awards for ‘Mawaali’ (1984), ‘Tohfa’ (1985), ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ (1995), ‘Loafer’ (1997), and ‘Judwaa’ (1996).  In 1982, Shakti made his only film as a lead actor in the unsuccessful ‘Zakhmi Insaan’. Shakti often formed a successful duo with comic actor Kader Khan. They appeared in over 100 movies together. Shakti was seen in a cameo role in 2019 Mohanlal starrer ‘Lucifer’ (Malayalam). In 2022, he appeared in an episode of ‘Guilty Minds’, a legal drama on Amazon Prime Video. Shakti was last seen in ‘Animal’ (2023), the controversial Ranbir Kapoor film. He recently had a supporting role in ‘Mere Husband Ki Biwi’ (2025), a romantic comedy. Shakti is the father of actor Siddhanth Kapoor and popular actress Shraddha Kapoor.
