Anupam Kher, a prolific Indian actor, director, and producer, born on March 7, 1955, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Anupam made his acting debut in 1982 in the movie ‘Aagman’. He became prominent in Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Saaransh’ (1984), ‘Karma’ (1986), and ‘Daddy’ (1989). Anupam has acted in approximately 540 Indian and international films, 100 plays, and many television shows as well. Among his many awards, he holds the record for most Filmfare Best Comedian Awards won for ‘Ram Lakhan’ (1989), ‘Lamhe’ (1991), ‘Khel’ (1992), ‘Darr’ (1993), and ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ (1995), and the Millennium Honors Actor of the Decade (2000). He has won a National Film – Special Jury Award for ‘Daddy’ (1989), and a National Film – Special Jury Award for ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’. In 2004, Anupam was presented the Padma Shri Award from the Government of India, and in 2016, he was presented the Padma Bhushan. My favorite Anupam performances were, as a nervous con man in ‘Special 26’ (2013), and as grouchy technology wiz Shukla in ‘Baby’ (2015). Some other films are ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ (2016), ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’,’ Judwaa 2’, and “The Big Sick’, an Oscar-nominated American movie, all in 2017, ‘Hotel Mumbai’ (2018), and in the role of Manmohan Singh in ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, and ‘One Day: Justice Delivered’ (2019). Anupam also plays the role of a doctor on an American television show, ‘New Amsterdam’. His recent movies have included a Malayalam film ‘Voice of Sathyanathan’, a Telugu film ‘Tiger Nageswara Rao’, and a Kannada film ‘Ghost’. Recent web-series are: ‘Trail By Fire’ (2023), a true crime drama, and ‘The Freelancer’ (2023), an action thriller created and co-written by Neeraj Pandey. Anupam has been married to actress Kirron Kher since 1985.
