Happy Birthday to Asha Bhosle, renowned playback singer and more recently an actress, born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Bombay, British India. Born into a musical family and known for her versatility and range, Asha has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist in music history, singing over 12,000 songs in six decades. Her two sisters Lata and Usha Mangeshkar are also playback singers.  Asha is known for her soprano voice range and versatility. She started her career in 1943 and has worked continually for seven decades. Asha’s first song was “Chala Chala Nav Bala” in the movie ’Majha Bal’, a Marathi film. Some of her best songs are ‘Dum Maro Dum’ from ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ (1971), ‘Aao Huzoor Tumko Sitaaron Main’ from ‘Kismat’ (1968), ‘Parde Mein Rehne Do’ from ‘Shikar’ (1968), and ‘In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke’ from ‘Umrao Jaan’ (1981). The government of India honored her with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, for her recorded songs in Hindi and twenty other languages.  In 2013, Asha made her acting debut at the age of 79, in the title role of ‘Mai’, as a mother suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
