Dhanush, is a popular actor who predominately works in the Tamil film industry, born July 28, 1983, in Chennai. Dhanush made his acting debut in ‘Thulluvadho Ilamai’ which was directed by his father, Kasthuri Raja. He has made over thirty films; most are Tamil and two are Bollywood films. Dhanush received a National Film Award for Best Actor in 2011 for his film ‘Vetrimaran’, playing a local cockfighter. He has also won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film 2014 for producing ‘Kaaka Muttai’. In 2016, he won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for producing ‘Visaranai’, about the plight of Tamilian migrant workers. Dhanush made his Bollywood debut in 2013, in the successful “Raanjhanaa”, co-starring Sonam Kapoor. Then in 2015, Dhanush co-starred with one of his idols, Amitabh Bachchan, in the box office failure “Shamitabh”. He is also known as a playback singer. In the movie ‘3’, which marked the directional debut of his wife, Aishwarya Rajinikanth (yes, Rajini’s daughter), he started an internet stir with the song ‘Why this Kolaveri Di’ (2011). In 2017, Dhanush wrote and made his directing debut with ‘Pa Paandi’ (Tamil). He also starred in ‘VIP 2’ with Kajol, in her return to Tamil films after many years.  In 2018, Dhanush produced and starred in ‘Vada Chennai’, a critically acclaimed gangster drama with a champion carrom player at its’ center. He also appeared in the English language film ‘The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir’ (2018). In 2019, Dhanush was praised for his portrayal of a Dalit farmer in ‘Asuran’ (2019), and as a man fighting for the right of his village to have a bus stop.
