Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is an Indian actress, model and the winner of the Miss World pageant of 1994, born on November 1, 1973, in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.  Through her successful Bollywood career, she has established herself as one of the most popular and high-profile celebrities in India and is considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. Aishwarya made her acting debut in a Tamil film, Mani Ratnam’s ‘Iruvar’, in 1997. Later that year, she appeared in her first Hindi film ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’. Aish received two Filmfare Best Actress awards: ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (1999) and ‘Devdas’ (2002). Her other well-known films include: ‘Mohabbatein’ (2000), ‘Dhoom 2’ (2006), ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ (2008), ‘Enthiran’ (2010), and ‘Guzaarish’ (2010). She married Abhishek Bachchan in 2007 (Amitabh is her father-in-law), and took a break from acting when her daughter, Aaradhya, was born. She returned to the screen in ‘Jazbaa’ (2015) and ‘Sarbjit’ (2016). In 2016, Aish was also seen in Karan Johar’s very successful ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, as an older woman having an affair with a younger Ranbir Kapoor.  She was last seen in ‘Fanny Khan’ (2018) co-starring Rajkummar Rao. Aishwarya was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s two-part film ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ (2022 and 2023). The film is historical fiction set in the 9th century involving the most powerful king in South India. Aishwarya plays a dual role in the movie as the main antagonist and her mute mother. It is her highest-grossing film to date. Aishwarya was honored by the government of India with the Padma Shri in 2009.
