Amitabh Bachchan, veteran Bollywood actor, producer, singer, and television host, was born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad. Amitabh’s father was a Hindi poet, and his mother was a Punjabi Sikh who encouraged his acting career.  He made his acting debut in the 1969 film ‘Saat Hindustani’.  In 1971, Amitabh won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award for ‘Anand’.  Amitabh became a star doing the first of his ‘angry young man’ roles in ‘Zanjeer’ (1973). In 1975, he starred in Yash Chopra ‘Deewaar’ and ‘Sholay’, both of which show up on “Best of Bollywood” lists. ‘Sholay’ held the record as the highest-grossing film for many years. In 1977, Amitabh won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, a comedy of three children separated in childhood and raised as a Muslim, a Christian, and a Hindu. Other highly successful films during this time period were: ‘Don’ (1978), ‘Trishul’ and ‘Mr. Natwarlal’ (1979), ‘Kaala Patthar’ (1979), ‘Silsila’ (1981), and ‘Coolie’ (1983). In 1990, Amitabh won a National Film Award for Best Actor for ‘Agneepath’.  He was semi-retired from acting during the 1990s and started his own entertainment company called ABCL. The company never did well and eventually went bankrupt.  Returning to acting, he starred in ‘Mohabbatein’ (2000) with SRK, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ (2001), ‘Black” (2005), winning his second National Film Award for Best Actor, ‘Sarkar’ (2005), ‘Paa’ (2009), his third National Film Award for Best Actor. In 2014, Amitabh was a hypochondriac and Deepika Padukone was his long-suffering daughter in ‘Piku’.  Amitabh won his fourth National Film Award for Best Actor for ‘Piku’. ‘Pink’ (2016), in the role of a lawyer struggling with mental illness, and in ‘102 and Not Out’, as a happy 102-year-old man, were also hits. Over the course of his career, he has appeared in 220+ films, winning many awards and honors. In 2018, Amitabh co-starred with Aamir Khan in the unsuccessful ‘Thugs of Hindustan’. In 2019, Amitabh played an advocate in ‘Badla’, and made a special appearance in ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ (Telugu). In 2020, he was a stingy landlord in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ for Amazon Prime. Amitabh has been married to actress Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan since 1973 and his son, Abhishek Bachchan is also an actor
