Anurag Basu is an Indian director, producer, and screenwriter, born on May 8, 1970, in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, India.  Anurag’s parents were both active in the theater, and he began working in television and film while in college. He directed several television shows in his twenties and eventually started his own production company working with Zee TV and the Sony channel. The first film he directed was ‘Saaya’ in 2003, followed by ‘Murder (2004), and ‘Gangster’ (2006). In 2007, Anurag wrote, produced, and directed ‘Life in a …Metro’ (2007), a musical drama with an ensemble cast set in Mumbai, and ‘Kites’ (2010), with Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut. His last two films were: ‘Barfi!’ (2012), a funny story about a quirky deaf-mute Ranbir Kapoor; and ‘Jagga Jasoos’ (2017), also with Ranbir. ‘Stories by Rabindranath Tagore’, a television series set in Bengal in the 1920s, is currently streaming on Netflix. In 2020, Anurag directed ‘Ludo’, a black comedy crime drama that had a multi-star cast of Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Pankaj Tripathi. It was released on Netflix to positive reviews.
