Happy Birthday to Hansal Mehta, Indian director, writer, actor, and producer, born on April 29, 1968, in Mumbai. Hansal started his career directing a popular Zee TV cooking show, ‘Khana Khazana’, from 1993 to 2000, along with other television shows. The first film he directed was ‘Jayate’ (1999). Mehta has over twenty films to his credit. The turning point in his career was 2013’s ‘Shahid’, starring Rajkummar Rao in the true story of human rights lawyer Shahid Azmi who was murdered.  Hansel won the National Film Award for Best Direction for the movie. In 2014, he won praise for ‘CityLights’, a low budget film about a young man from Rajasthan who moves to Mumbai to make a better living for him, his wife, and his daughter. In 2015, Hansal directed Manoj Bajpai in ‘Aligarth’, a true and touching story of a gay professor in a Muslim university. Next was ‘Simran’ (2017) with Kangana Ranaut as a divorcee with a gambling habit, and the web series ‘Bose: Dead/Alive’, starring Rajkummar Rao as Subhas Chandra Bose.  ‘Omerta’, starring Rao was released in 2018.  It is the true story of kidnappings by a British terrorist of Pakistani descent who beheaded Daniel Pearl. In 2019, Hansal was the creative producer of ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’. In 2020, Hansal directed the popular web series ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ for Sony LIV. The story was based on the Indian Stock Market scam of 1992.
