Happy Birthday to Bhumi Pednekar, Indian actress, born on July 18, 1989, in Mumbai.  Bhumi worked as an assistant casting director for six years before being picked by Yash Raj Films for the 2015 film ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. Bhumi gained weight for her role as Sandhya, an educated girl whose arranged marriage is in trouble because the groom is not pleased with her looks. The film won Best Feature Film in Hindi at the 63rd National Film Awards, and Bhumi won the Filmfare Awards for Best Female Debut. Bhumi’s second film was ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ (2017), co-staring Akshay Kumar in his biggest commercial success. The film tackled the social issue of open defecation and lack of toilets in India. Her third successful film, ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ (2017), co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana, undertook the subject of erectile dysfunction. In 2018, Bhumi appeared in the Netflix anthology, ‘Lust Stories’, as a maid in love with her boss. In 2019, Bhumi was seen in ‘Sonchiriya’ (2019), as a dacoit (bandit) on the run in 1970s rural India. Later that year, she portrayed real life senior sharpshooter Chandro Tomar in ‘Saand Ki Aankh’, co-starring Taapsee Pannu. Both actresses were awarded the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for the film.
