Happy Birthday to Chiyaan Vikram (born Kennedy John Victor), Tamil actor, singer, and film producer, born on April 17, 1966, in Madras, Tamil Nadu. Vikram’s father was a supporting actor in Tamil films and television. Vikram trained in theatre and classical dance. While attending Loyola College in Chennai, he is hit by a truck while riding a motorbike. Vikram seriously injured his leg and was bed-ridden for three years. After his recovery, Vikram modeled and made his debut in the 1990s love story ‘En Kadha Kanmani’ (Tamil). His early films were unsuccessful, and he began working in the Telugu and Malayalam industry. His breakthrough film was ‘Sethu’ in 1999, as a college student suffering with a brain injury. Vikram won a Filmfare Special Jury award. Some of his best known films are: ‘Kasi’ (2001) winning his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor as a blind singer; as a cop in ’Saamy’ (2003); a man with autism in ‘Pithamagan’ (2003), winning Filmfare Best Actor, Tamil Nadu State Film Award, and the National Film Award; a man with multiple personality disorder in ‘Anniyan’ (2005); ‘Raavanan’ (2010) a retelling of the Ramayana; a developmentally disabled man in ‘Deiva Thirumagal’; and blockbuster ‘I’ (2015), as super model who becomes a hunchback. Vikram was last seen in ‘Kadaram Kondan’ (2019), as a comatose criminal. Vikram is a philanthropist, known for his work with many charities, including: a school for special education, Kasi Eye Care (free eye surgeries for poor), and The Vikram Foundation (education and heart operations for the poor, and victims of natural disasters). His next film ‘Cobra’ will release in May.

Ever since I was a little girl, I loved a good story. As an American, most of the movies I have watched were made in Hollywood. As I got older I lost interest in Hollywood movies and started watching Bollywood movies. Now I enjoy Tollywood, Kollywood, and Mollywood films as well.
