Happy Birthday to Samantha (Ruth Prabhu) Akkineni, born on April 28, 1987, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Samantha is a popular actress in the Telugu and Tamil film industries. She started her career by modelling while attending college. Samantha made her film debut in a Telugu film directed by Gautham Menon, ‘Ye Maaya Chesave’ (2010). The subject of the movie was a romance between a Hindu boy and a Christian girl. Her co-star was Naga Chaitanya Akkineni, who she married for real in 2017. Samantha won several Best Female Debut Awards for her role. Her next three notable films were ‘Dookudu’ (2012), a blockbuster starring Mahesh Bahu, ‘Neethaane En Ponvasantham’ (2013), in which she won Best Actress Awards in both Tamil and Telugu, and S. S. Rajamouli’s action fantasy ‘Eega’ (2013), winning the 60th Filmfare Awards South Best Actress – Telugu. Samantha had several unsuccessful roles during the next couple years and took time off because of illness. Her most successful roles have been in A.R. Murugadoss’s ‘Kaththi’ (2014), Velraj’s ‘Thanga Magan’ (2015), Atlee’s ‘Theri’ (2016), Vikram Kumar’s ‘24’ (2016), ‘A Aa’ (2016) winning her 4th Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu, ‘Mersal’ (2017), ‘Rangasthalam’ (2018), the much talked about ‘Super Deluxe’ (2019), and ‘Oh! Baby’ (2019). She was last seen in ‘Jaanu’ (2020) a remake of the Tamil hit ‘96’. In her first decade, Samantha has made forty plus films with many leading men from both the Tamil and Telugu industries: NTR Jr., Nani, Suriya, Vijay, Dhanush, Ram Charen, Allu Arjun, Pawan Kalyan, and Vikram. Samantha started a charitable trust called Pratyusha Support in 2012. The organization helps women and children with hospital bills. Samantha will appear in season 2 of Amazon’s ‘The Family Man’ which stars Manoj Bajpayee to be released this summer.
