Happy Birthday to Nawazuddin Siddiqui, gifted Indian actor, born on May 19, 1974, in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Nawaz’s father was a farmer. Nawaz has seven brothers and two sisters. After college, he worked in a petrochemical company as a chemist. After being exposed to theater in New Delhi, Nawaz was drawn to acting. Eventually, he graduated from the National School of Drama in New Delhi and moved to Mumbai. Nawaz made his Bollywood debut in 1999, with a small part in ‘Sarfarosh’ (1999), which starred Aamir Khan. After many years of small roles and supporting parts, Nawaz had a most successful year in 2012, winning critical acclaim for his acting in ‘Kahaani’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Miss Lovely’, and ‘Talaash’. In 2013, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in ‘The Lunchbox’ and was Salman Khan’s enemy in ‘Kick’. In 2015, he won praise for ‘Badlapur’ co-starring with Varun Dhawan, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ with Salman Khan, and ‘Manjhi – The Mountain Man’. Not afraid to take on roles that portray evil, in 2017 Nawazuddin played Shyam, a married teacher in a sexual relationship with one of his students. In 2018, he received praise for his portrayal of Urdu author Saadat Hasan ‘Manto’, and a Marathi politician Balasaheb ‘Thackeray’. Nawaz has done a webseries for Netflix called ‘Sacred Games’, and the films ‘Serious Men’ and ‘Raat Akeli Hai’ for which he won Best Leading Actor in a Web Original Film presented by Filmfare OTT Awards. Between acting engagements, Nawaz has a farm in Uttar Pradesh where he uses the latest techniques in an effort to improve the lives of local farmers.
