Ashutosh Gowariker, Indian director, writer, actor, and producer, born on February 15, 1964, in Kolhapur. Ashutosh started his career acting in the 1984 movie ‘Holi’. In 1993, he directed ‘Pehla Nasha’, and in 1995 ‘Baazi’ with Aamir Khan. In 2001, Ashutosh made history when he wrote and directed Aamir Khan again in the period movie, ‘Lagaan’, the first of his signature large-scale, opulent, period dramas. This film won the Filmfare Award for Best Film and Best Director and was the biggest hit of the year. In 2004, he wrote and directed ‘Swades’, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, who won Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 2008, Ashutosh directed ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai. It won Filmfare Best Director and Best Movie Award. His next two films, ‘What’s Your Raashee?’ (2009) and ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ (2010) were not as successful. In 2016, Ashutosh produced and directed the epic romance ‘Mohenjo Daro’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde, in her debut. The movie was a flop. The same year, Ashutosh acted in ‘Ventilator’, an award-winning Marathi film, produced by Priyanka Chopra. The last film Ashutosh directed was ‘Panipat’ (2019), a period movie which received mixed reviews. In 2022, Ashutosh co-wrote ‘Toolsidas Junior’, his first production-only venture under Ashutosh Gowariker Productions. The film about the game of snooker, was the winner of the 68th National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. In 2023, he starred in a web series for Netflix, ‘Kaala Paani’, a survival thriller. Ashutosh is married and has two sons.
