Jagapathi Babu, an Indian actor and producer working in Telugu cinema, born on February 12, 1962, in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh. His father is director, producer, and screenwriter, National Film Award winner V. B. Rajendra Prasad. Jagapathi also works in the Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada films, appearing in 140 plus movies. Jagapathi made his debut in the Telugu film ‘Simha Swapnam’, and then starred in ‘Adavilo Abhimanyudu’ both in 1989. His first commercial success was ‘Peddarikam’ in 1992. In 1993, Jagapathi starred in a political crime thriller, directed by Ram Gopal Varma and co-written by himself and Mani Ratnam called ‘Gaayam’. He won a Nandi Award for Best Actor in the role of Durga, a breakthrough role. Other award-winning roles are ‘Maavichiguru’ (1996), ‘Anthahpuram’ (1998), ‘Manoharam” (2000), ‘Lakshyam’ (2007), ‘Jai Bolo Telangana (2011), ‘Legend’ (2014), ‘Nannaku Prematho’ (2016), and ‘Pulimurugan’ (2016/Malayalam). Since 2014, his roles have been mainly villain and supporting roles. Jagapathi was the villainous head of a village in ‘Rangasthalam’, the highest grossing Telugu movie of 2018. In 2023, he was a villain in the Hindi film ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ which starred Salman Khan, and ruler of a city-state in ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’. In 2024, Jagapathi was a corrupt Central Minister in ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’. He has also starred in the web series ‘Gangstars’ (2018/Telugu), and ‘Parampara’ (2021-2022).
