Happy Birthday to Dibakar Banerjee, Indian director, producer and screenwriter, born on June 21, 1969, in New Delhi, India. Before Dibakar became a director, he worked in the advertising business as a copywriter and produced commercials for major brands. The first film he directed was ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ in 2006. The story, starring Anupam Kher and Boman Irani, pitted the common man against the powerful. It won a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi/2007.  Dibakar’s second turn as director was ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ which won a National Film Award for Best Popular Film/2009. His third film was ‘Love Sex aur Dhokha’ (2010), a satire shot entirely with a digital camera exploring greed and technology.  In 2013, Dibakar directed ‘Shanghai’, a political drama, and part of an anthology celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema, ‘Bombay Talkies’.  In 2014, Dibaker directed ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshi!’, which starred Sushant Singh Rajput as a budding Kolkata detective in the 1940s. The movie was the first co-produced by Dibakar Banerjee Productions and Yash Raj Films. In 2015, Dibakar produced ‘Titli’, about a family of violent car thiefs.  Netfliks released ‘Lust Stories’, an anthology in 2018. Dibakar was one of four collaborators (Anurag KashyapZoya Akhtar and Karan Johar) whose pieces were based on the theme of lust. This group again directed ‘Ghost Stories’, an anthology of horror stories in 2020. ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’, written, directed and produced by Dibakar, was released on Amazon Prime Video in May of 2021 to good reviews.
