Gauri Shindi, an Indian director, born on July 6, 1974, in Pune. After her graduation from College, Gauri moved to Mumbai and did an internship with Siddharth Kak, a director of documentaries. Eventually, she worked in advertising making ads and short films. Her first feature film was ‘English Vinglish’, which she directed, as well as wrote the story and screenplay. Taken from her own experiences as a child, ‘English Vinglish’ won critical and commercial success. Sridevi made a successful comeback to the film playing an unappreciated mother, who ran a successful laddo business but struggled with English. The movie won the 2012 Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director among others.  In 2016, Gauri wrote and directed her second film, ‘Dear Zindagi’ starring Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan. In the movie, Alia plays a young woman who seeks therapy to understand herself better. In 2022, Gauri became one of the producers of ‘Chup: Revenge of The Artist’, a serial killer crime thriller starring Dulquer Salmaan. Gauri was married to director/screenwriter, R. Balki in 2007.
