Kavita Krishnamurthy is a popular Indian playback singer and concert artist, who was born on January 25, 1958, in New Delhi. Bollywood stars do not actually sing their film songs, this task is given to the playback singer. Kavita Krishnamoorthy was trained in classical music as a child and has worked with composers ranging from R.D. Burman to Javed Akhtar, Anu Malik, and A. R. Rahman. During her career, Kavita has recorded more than 50,000 songs in 45 languages. She has won four Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Awards for ‘Dola Re Dola’ from ‘Devdas’ (2003), ‘Aaj Main Upar’ from ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ (1997), ‘Mera Piya Ghar Aaya’ from ‘Yaraana’ (1996), and ‘Pyaar Hua Chupke Se’ from ‘1942: A Love Story’ (1995). She is the voice of Sridevi in the still popular ‘Hawa Hawai’ from ’Mr. India’ (1986), and ‘Nimbooda’ from ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (2000). Kavita received Padma Shri from the government of India in 2005. Kavita is married to violinist L. Subramaniam and together they have a music institute in Bengaluru.
