Happy Birthday to Pritam Chakraborty, or simply Pritam, Indian music director, composer, singer, born on June 14, 1971, in Kolkata, West Bengal. Pritam’s early music training came from his father’s small music school where he learned to play the guitar. After a course in Sound Recording and Engineering, he moved to Mumbai, eventually composed ad jingles and title tracks for television shows. His break into films came when director Sanjay Gadhvi (the Dhoom series), asked Pritam and a friend, Jeet Gannguli, to compose the music for his first movie ‘Tere Liye’ (2001). The music was well received but the movie was not. Their next movie was ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaad Hai’. The music was highly successful. After that Pritam went solo, composing the music for ‘Dhoom, and winning the Zee Cine Award for Best Track of the Year for Dhoom’s title track. He won a second Zee Cine Award for ‘Mauja hi Mauja’ from ‘Jab We Met’. Pritam has won acclaim as music director for the following movies: ‘Dhoom 2’ (2006), ‘Life in a Metro’ (2007), ‘Jab We Met’ (2007), ‘Race’ (2008),’Love Aaj Kal’ (2009), ‘Cocktail’ (2012), ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ (2013), ‘Dilwale’ (2015), ‘Dangal’ (2016), and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016). Some of his best-selling soundtrack albums are: ‘Barfi’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’,‘Dilwale’, and ‘Raabta’. Pritam has recently done music for: ‘Jagga Jasoos’, Tubelight, ‘Golmaal Again’, and ‘Kalank’. Pritam’s music will be heard in Kabir Khan’s upcoming movie ‘83’ and in ‘Brahmastra’.
