Bolly Flashback:  This is the birth anniversary of a legendary music director R. D. Burman (Rahul Dev). born on June 27, 1939, died on January 4, 1994.  Burman was active from 1961 to 1994 composing music for more than 330 movies. Burman often worked with singer Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, and Lata Mangeshkar. Asha Bhosle was his second wife and together they performed their many hits at live stage shows. Burman scored 40 films for Rajesh Khanna. Kishore sang in 32 of them. Burman revolutionized Bollywood music by combining many influences, such as, electronic rock, disco, jazz, with Bengali folk music, or Western, Latin, Oriental, and Arabic music. He also experimented with different sounds and different singers. He was nominated for 14 Filmfare Best Music Director Awards for films such as: ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1974), ‘Sholay’ (1976), ‘Mehbooba’ (1977), ‘Shaan’ (1981), and ‘Love Story’ (1982). He won three Best Music Director Awards including: ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ (1983), ‘Masoom’ (1984), and ‘1942: A Love Story’ (1995 – posthumously). Filmfare instituted the R.D. Burman Award for New Music Talent in his honor. He died suddenly of a heart attack on January 4, 1994 at the age of 54.
