Happy Birthday to Anand L. Rai, Indian producer, and director, born on June 28, 1971, in Delhi. Starting his career as an engineer but in due course he moved to Mumbai to assist his brother who was working in television. Eventually, Anand started directing television shows. He made his film directorial debut with ‘Strangers’ starring Jimmy Shergill in 2007. Anand’s second film, ‘Thodi Life Thoda Magic’ (2008), did not do well. His fortunes changed with his third film ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ (2011), a successful romantic comedy starring Kangana Ranaut and Madhavan. In 2013, Anand directed Tamil actor Dhanush in his Bollywood debut. ‘Raanjhanaa’, with Sonam Kapoor as the female lead, was very successful. In 2015, he directed the sequel for ‘Tanu Weds Manu: Returns’, which was also a hit.  Anand’s next film was ‘Zero’, starring Shah Rakh Khan, Anushka Sharma, and Katrina Kaif. The film featured a dwarf who falls in love with a scientist with cerebral palsy. It was a flop. Anand has also founded his own production house, Colour Yellow Productions. They have produced such films as ‘Mukkabaaz’ and ‘Tumbbad’.
