Remesh Sippy is an Indian producer, and director, born on January 23, 1947, in Karachi, Pakistan. His first exposure to the Hindi film industry came when Remesh was six years old. He visited the sets of his father’s (G.P. Sippy) first film. At nine, he had played a part in ‘Shahenshah’ and continued to work with his father learning production and direction. Ramesh made his directorial debut in ‘Andaz’ (1971) starring Hema Malini. His second film with her was an even bigger hit, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’, in 1972. In 1975, Remesh directed ‘Sholay’ starring Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan. ‘Sholay’. Today, ‘Sholay’ is a well-loved and respected classic, considered one of a small collection of the greatest Hindi films. Altogether, Ramesh has directed twelve films and produced ten. After a twenty-year break, he directed Rajkummar Rao, Hema Malini, and Rakul Preet Singh in a romance in 2020. Ramesh is the recipient of the Padma Shri from the government of India in 2013, and a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. He has also directed television successfully. In 2017, Ramesh founded the Ramesh Shippy Academy of Cinema & Entertainment located in Mumbai. His son, Rohan is also a director.
