Happy Birthday to Tamil star Suriya (Saravanan Sivakumar), actor, producer and television presenter, born on July 23, 1975, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.  Suriya’s father is Tamil film actor Sivakumar. His younger brother, Karthi, is also an actor.  In 1997, Suriya made his debut in ‘Nerrukku Ner’, a thriller which also starred Tamil actor Vijay. His big breakthrough came playing the part pf an ex-convict trying to fit back into society in ‘Nandha’, an action drama made in 2001, and for which he won a Tamil Nadu State Film for Best Actor. Suriya filmography reveals a wide variety of roles: a policeman ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and a conman in ‘Pithamagan’ (2003), a hunchback/college student in ‘Perazhagan’ and a student leader in ‘Aaytha Ezhuthu’ (2004), a businessman with amnesia in ‘Ghajini’ (2005), a smuggler in ‘Ayan’ (2009), a professional assassin ‘Aadhavan’ (2009), and a martial arts master in ‘7aum Arivu’ (2011). Suriya also starred as the iconic smalltown cop Singam in blockbusters ‘Singam’ (2010), ‘Singam II’ (2012), and ‘S3’ (2017). In 2016, he became a time-traveler in the blockbuster ‘24’. His last films were ‘Thaana Serndha Kootam’ (2018), a remake of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Special 26’, and ‘NGK’ (2019), playing a budding politican. In 2020, Suriya released ‘Soorarai Pottru’on Amazon Prime Video. This biopic of the founder of Air Deccan Captain G.R. Gopinath, is currently the 3rd highest rated film on IMDb (9.1). Suriya has been married since 2006 to actress Jyothika, they have a daughter and a son. The couple have acted in seven films together. Suriya began the Agaram Foundation, which is a philanthropic organization in 2008. He also has his own production house 2D Entertainment.
