Asin Thottumkal, known as Asin, is an Indian model and actress, born on October 26, 1985, in Cochin, Kerala, India. Asin has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and is trained in the classical dance style Bharathanatyam. She speaks seven languages and dubs her own voice in her films. Asin started her career in the South, making her debut in the Malayalam film ‘Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka’ in 2001. With her second movie, ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi’ (2003), a Telugu movie, Asin won a Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu’. After finding success in the Telugu film industry, Asin went on to find success in the Tamil industry as well. She starred in Tamil films such as: ‘Ghajini’ (2005), which earned her a Tamil Filmfare Award for Best Actress, ‘Sivakasi’ (2005), Varalaru’ (2006), ‘Pokkiri (2007)’, and the blockbuster ‘Dasavathaaram’ (2008), playing a double role opposite Kamal Haasan. Asin entered Bollywood with the remake of ‘Ghajini’ in 2008, opposite Aamir Khan. ‘Ghajini’ was the highest-grossing film that year and one of the highest ever. After this, Asin has made primarily Bollywood films: ‘London Dreams’ (2009), ‘Ready’ (2011), ‘Housefull 2’ (2012), ‘Bol Bachchan’ (2012), ‘Khiladi 786’ (2012), and ‘All is Well’ (2015). In January 2016, Asin married Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma and retired from acting. Their first daughter was born on October 24, 2017.
