Ekta Kapoor is an Indian television and film producer and writer, born on June 7, 1975, in Mumbai.  Ekta is the daughter of Bollywood actor Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor, and sister to actor Tusshar Kapoor.  Ekta, known as one of the most powerful women in Indian television, had produced many successful television soap operas before she produced films.  Ekta is the Joint Managing Director and Creative Director of Balaji Telefilms, which was founded by her father.  She began producing films under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures starting with Govinda’s ‘Kyunki Main Jhooth Nai Bolta’ in 2001.  Ekta’s list of successful films includes: ‘Love Sex aur Dhokha’ (2010), ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ (2010), ‘The Dirty Picture’ (2011), ‘Lootera’, and ‘Ragini MMS 2’ (2014). Her latest films were: ‘The Flying Jatt’ (2016), ‘Half Girlfriend’ (2017), and ‘Veere Di Wedding’ (2018). Etka also produces web series run on the digital app ALTBalaji. In 2020, Ekta was presented with a Padma Shri for her contribution to the Arts. She is single but has a son born through surrogacy.
