Farhan Akhtar, a multi-talented Indian entertainer, was born on January 9, 1974 in Mumbai. Farhan is the son of screenwriters Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, and brother to director and writer, Zoya Akhtar. Shabana Azmi is his stepmother. He started his career as an assistant director, and eventually, Farhan established Excel Entertainment, a production company. In 2001, he wrote and directed ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, which won a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. In 2004, Farhan wrote English lyrics for ‘Bride and Prejudice’, a Hollywood film with an Indian cast. In 2006, he wrote the screenplay, produced, and directed the remake of ‘Don’ and ‘Don 2’ (2011) starring Shah Rukh Khan. In 2008, Farhan made his singing and acting debut in ‘Rock On!!’. Farhan received a second National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi as its’ producer. He wrote dialogues, acted, and produced ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (2011). The picture won him a Filmfare Best Film Award and a Best Supporting Actor Award. In 2014, Farhan starred in the biopic, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. Farhan successfully portrayed Indian sprinter Milkha Singh and won several Best Actor awards (Screen Awards, Filmfare Awards, IIFA). Earlier in 2019, Farhan produced the very successful ‘Gully Boy’, which his sister Zoya wrote and directed. He was seen in ‘The Sky is Pink’ in 2019, playing the father of a fatally ill daughter. Farhan’s most recent Indian film was Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Toofan’, a sports film, in the role of a boxer. In 2022, Farhan made his Hollywood debut in Disney’s web series ‘Ms. Marvel’, playing a mystic guide. Farhan also became the Hindi distributor for the very successful ‘K.G.F.: Chapter 1 (2018). He has been a playback singer in such films as: ‘Rock On’ and ‘Rock On 2’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, and ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ (Telugu/2018).
